Preceptorship, Externs, and Interns

Rural Veterinary Hospital prides itself on educating the next veterinarians or technicians ready to enter the world of vet med. We have provided experience for over 100 students in our 10 years of owning the business. Rural Veterinary Practice allows hands-on experience that senior veterinary students get very little of to prepare them for their future as a veterinarian.

Housing Provided

We have a small apartment that we house our students during their experience. You may also get a free steak dinner while working hard to gain hands on experience.

Come Prepared

Wyoming weather is always unknown. Come prepared with layers of clothing, mud boots, and a great attitude. A great attitude goes a long way and you will be impressed with the experience you gain at our facility.

All Species

Many of you choose our facility for the experience of large animal and the cow/calf aspect. You will not only gain experience in this area, but you will also be required to gain experience with all species. We can go from spaying a dog to working on a dystocia in a short time.

I just wanted to send a BIG BIG thank you to each of you for being so welcoming to another student just passing through. Thank you for making me feel like part of the Uinta family and treating me like the veterinarian I feel very unprepared to be! The four weeks I got to spend with you all were truly the best four weeks I’ve had this clinical year. Though there were hard cases, your support made the days better. You all are such an awesome team! I loved watching you all work together and thrive in your special niches.

Thank you for an incredible 2 weeks. You have created the best learning environment I’ve ever experienced. I feel so much more confident about my upcoming career because of you all, and you made every day fun and educational. I can’t say enough about the hand-on experience and the atmosphere at this practice. Its one in a million, and I’m so glad I had the privileges of learning from you all!

I wanted to thank you all for making my preceptorship my best rotation I’ve had, and likely will have during my fourth year of school. I had an absolute blast, and I learned so much! I really appreciate everyone being so welcoming and willing to teach me different tasks. It is rare in our fourth year to get real hand-on experience with cases that we will be seeing after graduation, but that was definitely not the case here. I was able to basically do anything I was comfortable doing. I even started to develop an interest in orthopedics rather than being scared to open a joint. I actually felt like a doctor for the first time since starting vet school. You guys helped me realize that I actually know more than I think I do. You have created a very fun and education setting for students to learn in, and we are all very appreciative for your efforts to educate the future of veterinary medicine.

Thank you so much for welcoming me into your clinic and providing me an incredible opportunity to learn and gain more hands-on experience! I can’t begin to explain how much I’ve enjoyed my time here with you all. Each and every staff member has been kind, patient, and friendly. I truly appreciate the time each of you have taken to explain and allow me to perform procedures and skills. Your clinic is the embodiment of a team, I hope to have a work environment like this in my future career! I am so excited to enter my 3rd year of school with all the knowledge I’ve gained and show off my newly learned skills! Again, thank you so much. It has been such a pleasure getting to know all of you. I will definitely keep in touch and would love the opportunity to come back!
